Let's be honest there are a lot of reasons why losing weight is so hard. We come up with all these reasons why we can't.
"I don't know how to get started."
"I don't have the time."
"I love food too much."
"I can't eat the same bland food day after day."
I know this because these were all my reasons. These were the excuses I came up with that I told myself every time I thought about trying to lose weight. I worked hard to convince myself that I couldn't do it. Deep down I know it was because I was scared to commit to something and invest in myself. My breaking point hit when I started having trouble fitting in my clothing and was running out of pant options for work each day. Knowing that if I didn't do something I would be buying myself a whole new wardrobe in a bigger size and I didn't want to see that number on the tag (or the number on the receipt).
That moment I looked at myself with my muffin top squeezed in my favorite pair of pants I realized I needed to stop letting the excuses win and start making a change.
Jenny Craig is a simple weight loss program with proven success. The average client loses 1-2 pounds a week while on the program which is based on healthy eating and calorie intake. Both those things are great but here is what hooked me... not only are the meals premade so I'm not the one counting the calories (Jenny Craig does all the work for me) but they are delicious, I kid you not, and filling. Keep reading and you'll find out how I eat 6 times a day... a little louder for the people in the back... SIX TIMES A DAY! Plus they have the new DNA Decoder which is absolutely amazing! I want to tell you more about that too! It was a total game-changer! | ![]() |
Let's start with who I am because I think you can relate. I am a mom who is still holding onto baby weight... for 4 years... and I use that as my excuse. Truth is I gained more weight after the baby was born. I fell into this rut of being a busy mom, teacher, and everything in between. I wasn't eating right. By not eating right I mean I wouldn't eat breakfast...ever... and lunch was a long shot because teachers don't always get those, so I was waiting until before bed and eating things that weren't the best choices. My metabolism was slowing down and my body was storing everything as fat. Even though I wasn't an overeater or even much of a junk food person I was storing all my calories instead of burning them off.
With Jenny Craig, I have started to eat 6 meals a day which includes breakfast, lunch, dinner, and 3 snacks in between. My meals are larger earlier in the day and I enjoy a smaller dinner and a snack or dessert afterward before fasting for 12 hours at night. I typically try to eat my snack around 7 so I can fast until I am at work the next day when I can eat my breakfast in my classroom before my students come in. My DNA was analyzed and I was placed on the Balanced Menu of 1200 calories per day. Based on your DNA results, you can be placed on one of three menus, which are powered by Rapid Results which uses your body's natural circadian rhythms to get your metabolism going again and help accelerate your weight loss.

The question I always get asked is, "What exactly is the DNA Weight Loss Kit?" With Jenny Craig's DNA Decoder Test Kit, you receive four cheek swaps which get mailed to the lab where they analyze 15 genetic markers related to weight loss. Those markers are indicative, not definitive. They give an insight to things such as how your body processes carbohydrates or proteins. There are five areas the decoder looks at:
- How your body may process food
- Your body's likely response to exercise
- Your sleep
- Eating behaviors and tendencies
- Your metabolism
The key thing to remember here is that your DNA can't change but how your genes are expressed, or "turned on or off" can. By making changes to the environmental factors such as how you eat, exercise, and sleep, your body will respond better.
I am on my way to a healthier lifestyle thanks to Jenny Craig and I couldn't be happier after week one. I am down 3.3 lbs (* Avg. weight loss 1-2 lbs/week for members following the program) in the first week and I am establishing better routines when it comes to eating and exercise for not only me but my family. While I am the only one on the plan, my children see me eating right and working out. We talk about which foods are best and we are trying new vegetables and food combinations. My husband and kids are learning by example and we are on our way to healthy habits as a family! I hope you will continue following my journey for the next 60 days and I hope that it will inspire you.
